Recently Senior Sergeant Jason Shepherd attended a ‘Bike-a-Thon’ held at the Weir C & K Community Kindergarten. The young kindy students had spent the week learning about healthy eating and the importance of being active. Teachers also spoke to children about people who help in the community.
Early on Saturday morning, at the end of the week, students and their walking parents participated in the kindy’s annual Bike-a-Thon. Senior Sergeant Shepherd attended and spoke informally to the young children on their scooters and bikes. The Bike-a-Thon included getting stamps at check points whilst following a path around the Weir State School and through Riverway. Road safety and other messages were displayed along the track to remind young riders of the importance of staying safe, including wearing bike helmets.
Senior Sergeant Shepherd enjoyed speaking with the students and their parents about policing and as expected the marked police vehicle was a hit. Senior Sergeant Shepherd looks forward to attending again next year to meet another new group of kindy students.
