Windorah traffic operation for tourist season

Given that the tourist season has arrived in the Windorah Division, traffic has increased considerably.

In an effort to maintain road safety throughout this busy time, Operation Papa Holdfast commenced on June 26. There will be an increased presence of police on the road in the Windorah area to cater for travellers travelling to Birdsville for the Big Red Bash.

Police will be targeting the Fatal Five, which include the following:

  • speeding;
  • drink and drug driving;
  • failure to wear a seat belt;
  • driving while fatigued; and
  • distraction and inattention.

Police will also target traffic offences within the business area of Windorah to ensure a smooth flow of traffic through the township.

In particular, drivers who drive down the wrong side of the road to gain access to fuel bowsers at the two service stations in Windorah will be targeted. This has been problematic in the past and continues to be an issue.
