St George police scoring points with local community

During 2016 St George Police were receiving numerous calls for service regarding young people playing on the corner of Anne and Andrew Street, St George with concerns that a child could be hit by passing vehicles. After consultation with the Balonne Shire Council, playground equipment was erected in the park which diverted a number of the younger children to the playground area.

To address the needs of older children, police struck up a proposal to erect a half court basketball area in the park and partnered with Safeway Excavations and approached council. Balonne Shire Council provided $10k and with the in-kind support of Safeway Excavations, off-duty officers from St George Police provided labour to make it happen.

Making this happen and delivering a usable asset for the young people of St George is what country policing is all about. Ron Irwin from Safeway Excavations and Balonne Shire Council are great supporters of our youth and the local community.

St George police are now looking for any challengers from within the local community for a game of 3 on 3.
