On Thursday, August 25 Barcaldine Police held a Bike Safety in the park event as part of Queensland Road Safety Week. The event coincided with Barcaldine Regional Councils opening of the new children’s road safety bike park located at the end of Ash Street in Barcaldine.
The Mayor of Barcaldine Rob Chandler, together with Longreach Patrol Inspector Mark Henderson cut the ribbon in the official opening of the park. Barcaldine Police conducted bike safety inspections, educated children with safe riding and road safety tips and introduced them to road signs.
Barcaldine Police arranged for Queensland Transport to attend who had road safety giveaways and each child had a kid’s driver license photograph taken. Barcaldine Regional Council put on a free sausage sizzle and the event was hailed a success.
Barcaldine Police rode pushbikes with the children and were overwhelmed with the support from the community educating at least 80 children at the event.
