April 30 save the date: Turning the Screws on Crime

Constable Heijboer fitting the anti theft screws

Turning the Screws on Crime is aimed at reducing number plate theft from vehicles in the District. Stolen plates are often fitted to other vehicles, which are then used to commit offences in an attempt to avoid detection.

One way screws for number plates will be available to be fitted to your vehicle at our next ‘Turn the Screws on Crime’ event:

Location: Bunnings Brendale

Date: 30 April

Time: 9am – 11am

It takes just a few seconds for offenders to unscrew the plates held on with conventional screws so police are encouraging the public to replace standard number plate screws with “one way” security screws making them more difficult to remove.

The one way screws can’t be removed with conventional tools, which deters would be thieves.

The community is asked to participate in this crime prevention program so please pass this message on to your neighbours and friends.

If your registration plates are stolen, report it to police as soon as possible and contact the Department of Transport and Main Roads to cancel them.
