Mount Isa District remembers on ANZAC Day


Dawn service was held at around 6.30am in Birdsville this year and was attended by many locals and visitors. One of the biggest Dawn Service crowds for Birdsville.

Birdsville Officer in Charge Stephan Pursell said the march began at 9.30am with a march from the Birdsville Hotel to Anzac park.

“We were joined again this year by locals and visitors, including current and ex-servicemen under the United Nations Flag and local school children carrying the Australian Flag,” Birdsville Officer in Charge Stephan Pursell said.

“The parade was led by locals riding horses again proudly displaying the Australia flag.”


Camooweal Police, Acting Sergeant Greg Randall and Acting Senior Constable Adrian Solah, hosted a dawn service that was attended by 80 -100 people at the Camooweal War Memorial.

Speeches were made by students from Camooweal State School and a prayer from Pastor Jono Wright. Following the service Camooweal driveway roadhouse hosted a breakfast raising funds for legacy.


McKinlay police hosted a dawn service, which was well-supported by the McKinlay community.

Approximately 40 police officers represented at the dawn service, and later marched through the CBD for a service at the cenotaph.
