Last week officers from the Queensland Mounted Police Unit took some of their newest steeds on their first training run close to the Bellbowrie Shopping Centre, Brisbane.
The session consisted of a variety of different exercises, including sensory training, patrol work and parade formations. Several of the horses hadn’t participated in these functions before, with one new horse, Arnie, still under consideration for recruitment.
Officers conducted traffic enforcement around the location, with the intention of exposing the newer horses to heavy traffic such as cars, buses and trucks in a quieter area than other working suburbs in the city.
It could also be considered a public relations exercise with many locals intrigued by the horses, including children on bikes who stopped to say hi.
It is probably not how many motorists expected to be conducting their breath tests that morning!
