Appeal for witnesses, copper cable theft

Police investigating the theft of a large amount of industrial copper cabling from the Fairview gas fields are appealing for witnesses.

Preliminary information indicates that between 4pm on Saturday, April 8 and 6:30am on Sunday, April 9 unknown offender/s have unlawfully gained entry to multiple laydown yards and have used heavy machinery and vehicles to remove a large quantity of industrial grade copper cabling.

Police from from Roma Stock And Rural Crime Investigation Unit would like to talk to anyone who may have witnessed heavy vehicles driving around the Roma district over weekend carrying large quantities of copper cabling similar to the below pictures. Particularly if they sighted these vehicles travelling on back roads.

Police are also asking the public to keep an eye out for anyone who they see in possession of similar cabling who normally wouldn’t have a need for it.
