Saturday 2 September 2017 kicked off as a beautiful morning with clear blue skies and not a cloud to be seen. It was perfect weather for an outdoor SAFE PL8 event being held at Bunnings Bethania, an event organised and supported by Edens Landing Police Beat with the amazing assistance from Logan District Volunteers in Policing (VIP’s).
The event was to commence at 9am and finish at 11am. At 8:30am there was a line of cars waiting to have the SAFE PL8 screws fitted to their vehicles. The service which was being offered free of charge by the Queensland Police Service received an overwhelming response.
I was overwhelmed by the support and positive attitudes of community members willing and able to take a stand against crime and take up this opportunity to use another form of crime prevention that is offered to them.
Four VIP’s namely Michael HOPKINS, Graeme NICHOLSON, Emili SLOAN and Terrence GIBBONS worked non-stop the entire time, not even stopping for a drink break. Installing SAFE PL8 screws on car after car. At one point in time there was an overflow car park of vehicles waiting to enter the installation area.
The tireless work of these volunteers does not go unnoticed and was certainly rewarded for their triumphant effort. 60 vehicles successfully had SAFE PL8 screws attached in an attempt to prevent crime and reduce number plate theft within the District.
If you were unable to attend today’s event and would like SAFE PL8 screws attached to your vehicle number plates, please contact your nearest Police Station or Police Beat to arrange a date and time to have them installed.
