NHW Australasia event held on the Gold Coast

The Queensland Police Service run a NHW Australasia training session for local Neighbourhood Watch areas.

The Gold Coast Crime Prevention Unit arranged an informative evening with guest speakers from various sections of the QPS including;

  • Senior Sergeant Steve Batterham from Commonwealth Games team spoke about the planning of the upcoming games;
  • Detective Sergeant Peter Galovic from the Synthetic Drug Operations Unit provided education on drug labs and what to look for;
  • Sergeant Debbie Phillips from the Domestic Violence Taskforce spoke about how to recognise, respond and report domestic and family violence; and
  • Senior Sergeant Bruce Tracey spoke on counter terrorism in a NHW context.

This event is part of the relationship building that QPS are focusing on to educate the community on how to become preventative about crime and take ownership of crime reduction in their community.

The event was supported by the City of Gold Coast, who provided the wonderful venue at the Southport Aquatic Centre and NHW Australasia who put on a delicious supper.
