Robbery, assault and vehicle theft charges, Manoora: A 23-year-old Westcourt man was charged yesterday in relation to the alleged robbery of a 28-year-old man at Manoora last Thursday.

It will be alleged the victim, who was known to the man, had agreed to drive him to a number of locations around Cairns on Thursday afternoon, during which several other people got into the vehicle.

It will be further alleged that upon arrival at a Manoora address, the man punched the victim to the face before striking him with an object, believed to be a baseball bat.

The victim was then allegedly forced into a residence where the man took money from him before demanding access to his bank account. The victim was then driven to a bank on Sheridan Street where a sum of money was allegedly withdrawn from his account.

The group then drove back to the Whitney Street address where the victim managed to flee on foot and raise the alarm. His alleged assailant then drove off in his vehicle.

Police attended a Whitney Street address and located the victim, who was treated for a number of facial injuries.

The alleged offender was arrested at Woree in the early hours of Friday morning and charged over other unrelated incidents. The victim’s vehicle was also located at the scene and recovered.

The man was subsequently charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, robbery with violence and unlawful use of a motor vehicle and is scheduled to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on May 16. Investigations into the incidents are continuing.   

Pair charged over far north crime spree: A boy and girl, both aged 15 years of age from Edmonton and Mooroobool, were charged on Friday as part of investigations into several property related matters, mostly involving burglary and vehicle theft offences.

Police had been actively seeking the pair and Edmonton officers located the boy at a local address on Friday morning and was taken into custody.

Further inquiries resulted in the girl being located at another Edmonton residence a few hours later.

The boy was charged with a total of 23 offences comprising 11 counts of burglary, six counts of unlawful use of motor vehicles, and six other property and traffic related offences.

The girl was charged with eight counts of burglary, six counts unlawful use of motor vehicles and three other property and traffic related offences.

The charges relate to offences allegedly committed at Port Douglas, Palm Cove, Trinity Beach Smithfield, Cairns, Bentley Park, Edmonton, Gordonvale and Innisfail between May 7 and 11.   

Indecent assault charge, Port Douglas: Mossman detectives charged a 24-year-old Port Douglas man on Friday following investigations into a 2016 sexual assault incident.

It will be alleged the male victim, a 26-year-old foreign national, was asleep in his van on Mowbray Street at Port Douglas in the early hours of October 23 when another male gained entry to the vehicle via an open door and indecently assaulted him.

The victim awoke and yelled at the offender who then fled on foot. He was not physically injured as a result of the incident.

The incident was subsequently reported to Port Douglas police and an investigation was commenced.

The investigation culminated in the execution of a search warrant at a Garrick Street address on Friday morning. A number of items of interest were allegedly located and seized and a man was taken into custody.

He was charged with one count each of unlawful entry to premises with intent and indecent assault.  The man is expected to appear in the Mossman Magistrates Court on May 17.
