Attempted armed robbery – Springwood

Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery of a tavern at Springwood in the early hours of this morning, Friday May 19, 2017.

Around 2.45am a man has entered the Magellan Road business and proceeded to a poker machine area at the back of premises. A short time later a second man entered covering his face with a hooded jumper and armed with a crowbar.

The man armed with the crowbar approached the front counter where staff were working. An employee walked towards the offender who retreated out the front doors. He attempted to re-enter the premises again however a security guard used a chair to prevent the offender from entering.

The man, who had entered before the armed offender, fled out of the premises via a fire door.

Both men were observed to enter a white sedan parked at the front of the premises.

No money was obtained from the premises.

No one was injured during the incident.

The first offender is described as of aboriginal appearance 180 cm tall with facial stubble wearing a Adidas shorts, white shirt and white and dark singlet. The second offender armed with the crowbar is described as wearing a hoody, blue shorts and white joggers.

Investigations are ongoing.
