Police have declared an emergency situation under the provisions of the Public Safety Preservation Act, following investigations into a suspicious item in Edmonton.
The item was found at around 11.45am today by a member of the public and was reported to Edmonton Police soon after.
Officers from the Explosive Ordinance Response Team (EORT) attended the location and X-rayed the item, confirming it to be consistent with an explosive device.
Further testing will now be done to accurately determine what is contained within the item and how to safely dispose of it.
The emergency declaration encompasses McLaughlin Road, Robert Road and both lanes of the Bruce Highway remain closed from Foster Road, Mount Sheridan to Mill Road as officers respond to the incident.
