Robbery with violence, Heatley

Police are investigating an incident that occurred in Heatley early this morning in which a taxi driver was assaulted and robbed.

Initial investigations indicate that around 1.30am, a taxi driver picked up a male passenger on Fulham Road.

The 61-year-old taxi driver was punched in the face and head a number of times after asking the man how he was going to pay for the fare.

Following the assault, the man exited the taxi cab and walked away before returning moments later.

He then kicked the vehicle before opening the driver’s side door and stealing cash from the 61-year-old.

He fled the scene on foot and was last seen heading towards Lideman Avenue.

The man is described as Aboriginal in appearance, approximately 175cm tall. He was wearing a dark singlet and dark pants.

The 61-year-old man sustained minor facial injuries and received treatment at Kirwan Police Station where he reported the incident.

Investigations are continuing, with police appealing to anyone who may have any information in relation to this incident to contact them.
