Update – Charges, suspected drug lab, Broadbeach

A 24-year-old Surfers Paradise man has been charged following the discovery of a suspected drug lab at an apartment building at Broadbeach in the early hours of this morning.

It will be alleged around 5am police were called after an oven door was blown off during the suspected preparation of drugs.

The sprinklers were activated in the Gold Coast Highway apartment with residents being evacuated as a precaution.

It will further be alleged the male occupant of the unit fled but was located by police a short time later nearby.

No one was injured during the incident.

A 24-year old Surfers Paradise man has been charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count of producing dangerous drugs.

He will appear in in Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow.
