Police help fulfil bucket list item for a terminally ill best friend

When Emily Mochan received the devastating diagnosis that her best friend Buddy, a 6-year-old Blue Heeler, has Severe Lymphoma, she knew she wanted to ensure his final weeks were filled with happy memories and doggy adventures.

The pair have been together for four years since Emily adopted Buddy from a shelter when he was about 2-years-old.

To make the most of their remaining time together Emily started a bucket list nominating 27 things she hoped Buddy could experience just one more time or, in some instances, for the first time.

News travelled to us that on the list was for Buddy to sit in a police car so this afternoon with assistance from Dutton Park Police and the Dog Squad, we helped the duo tick off one more thing.

After being kitted up in a police dog harness and with his human mum in tow, Buddy was eager to explore the police car and didn’t need to be asked twice to get in, jumping straight on the front seat.

Buddy then got the unique experience of joining his newly made furry friends Recruit Dog Chopper and Police Puppy Bendix in the rear of the car just like a real Police Dog.

Buddy was as happy as a dog with two tails, lapping up the attention from Dutton Park officers with pats and treats galore.

At the end of their visit, Dog Squad Sergeant Ash Purvey presented Buddy and Emily with some gifts and a certificate making them an honorary Police Dog and Handler.

Buddy will certainly have a few tales to tell his mates when he ticks off number 22 on the list.
