Update: Search and rescue, Noosa

Police have released the name and photo of a 37-year-old man believed to be missing at a Noosa Beach.

A search involving multiple agencies has been underway since 12:30am this morning after a man believed to be Ricky Gardner was seen entering the water and swimming away from the shore of Main Beach on Hastings Street.

It is unknown whether the man made it back to shore or exited the water safely.

Mr Gardner is described as Caucasian, approximately 178cm tall, slim build and has light complexion.  It is unknown what he was wearing at the time of going missing.

Mr Gardner is believed to be itinerant with no fixed of abode and is believed to be residing in a van and frequenting the Noosa area.

Police are urging Mr Gardner or anyone who may have contact with him to contact police to verify that he is safe.
