Weapons charges, Crossdale near Esk

A man has been charged following an incident at a Crossdale property, near Esk yesterday morning.

Police were called to a property on Keen Road, off Stanley Pocket Road around 8.30am. Upon their arrival they allegedly located a man armed with a rifle.

As a result an emergent situation was declared, under the provisions of the Public Safety Preservation Act.

At around 6:00pm a man was taken into custody by police and received treatment at the scene for a self-inflicted gunshot wound before being transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

No one else was injured during the incident.

A 30-year-old Crossdale man has been charged with one count each of unlawful possession of a weapon, serious assault police, threatening violence by discharging a firearm, dangerous conduct with a weapon, and failure to possess a licence for ammunition.

He is due to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court tomorrow, November 5.
