Robbery with violence, Cairns

Police are investigating after a man was assaulted and his wallet stolen in Cairns last night.

Around 7pm, the victim – a 51-year-old Japanese national, was approached by three men at a fast food restaurant on The Esplanade. The men offered to escort him to Kuranda.

The offenders got into the victim’s car and set off for Kuranda, however they told the victim to pull over on the Captain Cook Highway.

The men assaulted the victim and stole his wallet, before fleeing on foot.

The victim drove back to Cairns and reported the matter to police. He sustained bruising to his eye and face.

The men are described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, and between 18 and 30 years of age.

Investigations are continuing.
