Woman charged over workplace fraud, Cairns

Cairns detectives have charged a 59-year-old woman following an investigation into the alleged misuse of money from a Trust fund account.

Police allege the woman, who held a board position as co-chair of an Indigenous development organisation, misappropriated the funds between May and October last year.

It will be further alleged that the misappropriated funds were paid to the organisation from another company. That money was to be distributed to an Indigenous Corporation – the intended specific beneficiary of the funds. Instead, it is alleged the woman instructed the funds to be transferred to herself and others. No payment was made to the Corporation for which it was intended.

The Karumba woman has been charged with one count of fraud (dishonest application of property of another subject to a trust, direction or condition value of/over $30,000)

She is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on February 13.
