The Queensland Police Rugby League have teamed up with Petero and the It’s your Choice campaign to spread the message that everyone has a choice when it comes to dealing with violence.

Sgt Todd Maquire said that the QPSRL was keen to jump on board to be part of the campaign. “It’s your choice is a unique campaign and we were proud to be part of the launch.  We jumped at the chance to promote this important the campaign on our jerseys and assist in spreading that message throughout the state.”

Meeting Petero recently at Dolphin Oval, the location of the launch of the campaign in April this year, was Australian Police Rugby League Captain and Queensland’s five eight, James Bartholomew.

The ‘It’s your Choice’ logo is featured on this year’s jersey and was proudly worn last week by the team when they played the New South Wales Police Rugby League Team at Hunter Stadium before the Knights v Titans NRL game as part of the Newcastle Tri-series. The game was a 10-10 draw and we are told that it was a very tough encounter and came down to the wire with both teams having an opportunity to win in the last couple of minutes with a missed penalty goal (Qld) and a missed field goal (NSW). Due to the NRL game following the match there was no extra time so as NSW won last year they got to retain the trophy (oh no!).

The following day and down a few team members due to injury, the QPS Rugby League team took on the Affiliated States and Territories Police Rugby League team which is a team of players from every other state/territory which is not Qld or NSW. Our boys did a fantastic job under pressure however they lost 18-12.

NSW took out the Australian Police Rugby League Tri-series defeating Affiliated States.

But…all was not lost! QPS Rugby League had six players selected in the Australian Police Rugby League side who will hopefully play Australian Indigenous Team as a curtain raiser to the NRL All Stars Indigenous game in February 2016 at Suncorp.
