Weekend Wrap Up – Over 100 motorists caught on Camera!

Maryborough Police District officers were kept busy over the weekend with a number of speeding offences detected across the district including Fraser Island.

Of concern was that over 100 were caught along Saltwater Creek Road by the speed camera van, with the highest speed detection of 167km/hr in a 60km/hr zone and a few more hitting the 102km/hr, 90km/hr and 86km/hr !!!!

Unfortunately this did not include an additional 80 motorists caught going over the speed limit in other areas.

Of interest is, of six drink drivers intercepted across the area, two were caught on Fraser Island.  This reminds motorists that police are out and about anywhere and anytime, including Fraser Island.

It was pleasing to see the District had a relatively hassle free weekend with the start of school holidays, but remember that while you are on holidays, it doesn’t mean that thieves are, so take on board some prevention tips including locking up your house if you are away, secure you property if you are camping and don’t leave valuables on display.

Police will be walking through talking to campers at various locations across Hervey Bay and Burrum Heads to ensure everyone has a stress free time by taking on board those simple prevention tips.

Don’t forget this weekend coming up is a long weekend so remember your driver reviver stops, and our FATAL Four – don’t drink and drive, don’t drive tired, don’t speed and always wear your seatbelt and have a great weekend.
