This week Moranbah Police have begun an awareness campaign focussing on crime prevention and community education. Moranbah Police are hitting the pavement and conducting spot checks around the Moranbah Township, with the hope of educating the community about the Lock it or lose it campaign.
The Lock it or lose it campaign focuses on crime prevention, reminding members of the public to secure their vehicles to avoid opportunistic thefts. It only takes a matter of seconds for thieves to grab wallets, handbags, garage remotes and other small and often expensive items from your unsecured vehicle.
The number one thing Moranbah Police want to remind vehicle owners, is not to leave their vehicle keys in the vehicle itself. Police have attended too many jobs where the keys have been left in the vehicle for the offenders to use.
Thieves these days are getting more and more brazen, with many offences happening during daylight hours.
Remember to practice good habits:
- Lock the car each time you get out.
- Ensure no valuables are left in plain sight, in your vehicle when at home or out and about. Take your wallet, phone, GPS, bags, and other valuables out of the car each time you are leaving it unattended.
- Report suspicious behaviour to Policelink 131 444, take details and photos, if possible record registration numbers and any vehicle or person descriptions.
- Consider upgrading your security features with CCTV or an alarm system.
