Detectives from the Gold Coast Child Protection Investigation Unit (CPIU) have closed a sexual assault investigation from 2007.
A 51-year-old Burleigh Waters man was arrested and charged today after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 16-year-old Brazilian male student in a Markeri Street car park in Mermaid Waters on December 13, 2007.
Gold Coast CPIU, Officer in Charge Detective Senior Sergeant Troy Penrose said it was a satisfying result.
“As a result of dedicated police work and modern technology that wasn’t available at the time of the offence police were able to solve this crime.
“We hope it brings closure to the victim and his family to know that police worked diligently to produce this outcome,” Detective Senior Sergeant Penrose said.
The man has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count each of rape, deprivation of liberty and going armed so as to cause fear.
He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow.
