Officers from the Gold Coast Rapid Action Patrol (RAP) were conducting targeted patrols of the Nerang area when they intercepted a vehicle allegedly stocked with drugs and weapons last night.
Around 7.30pm, officers detained the driver and a female passenger of an unregistered Toyota Hilux on Southport Nerang Road.
It will be alleged that an amount of drugs including cocaine and Methylamphetamine, were located in the vehicle along with a number of knives, knuckledusters, a rifle and ammunition.
Senior Sergeant Mat Kelly, Officer in Charge of Gold Coast Rapid Action said the intercept is an excellent result.
“This is an example of how police use intelligence driven strategies to combat crime. Last night’s arrest highlights the success of targeted patrols. A number of weapons and drugs are off of our streets and that is a good win for police and the broader community.” Senior Sergeant Kelly said.
A 31-year-old Burleigh man has been charged with 12 offences including weapons and drug possession and is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.
A 21-year-old Gaven woman was issued with a Notice to Appear charged with unlawful possession of a weapon (knife and knuckleduster).
Police investigations are continuing.
