Disturbance, Upper Coomera

Six people were taken to hospital following a violent disturbance at an Upper Coomera tavern this morning.

Preliminary information indicates that police were called to a Brygon Creek Road establishment around 1.20am following reports that a group of up to nine men were involved in a brawl in the public bar.

Five men were treated at hospital for a range of injuries including serious lacerations, bruises, as well as head and facial injuries. It is believed one man was knocked unconscious, and two others will require surgery to lacerations, including a man who was struck in the face with a glass. All injuries are believed to be non life threatening.

The men, ranging in aged from 25 to 32, were from Upper Coomera, Oxenford, Kingston, Boronia and Victoria.

A number of staff members attempted to intervene in the disturbance resulting in several receiving minor injuries, including a security guard who received treatment in hospital for a suspected broken arm.

Extensive damage was caused to the bar area, including broken pool cues and bar stools.

Investigations by detectives from Coomera Criminal Investigation Branch continue.
