Man charged over Gladstone vehicle theft:  A 28-year-old Earlville man was charged yesterday as a result of investigations into the theft of a vehicle from Gladstone.

It will be alleged that the man was visiting a woman who was known to him at a Gladstone caravan park on April 2 when he stole car keys before driving off in her vehicle.

It will be further alleged that the man fuelled the vehicle at Gladstone and Tully service stations and drove off without paying whilst enroute to Cairns.

He was taken into custody at his Yarrum Street residence at 6pm yesterday and charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and driving whilst disqualified, as well as two counts of stealing.

The man is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later this morning.

The vehicle was located parked at the Cairns airport on May 6 and has been returned to the owner.

Drug charges, Cooktown:  Four people were charged with drug offences yesterday as a result of a small local enforcement operation conducted by Cooktown CIB and uniformed police.

Officers executed search warrants at Newman Street at Rossville, and Rossville Bloomfield Road and Wilton Access Road at Cooktown and seized cannabis plants, dried cannabis and drug utensils and associated paraphernalia.

A 75-year-old Rossville man was charged with producing a dangerous drug, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of things used in the commission of a crime.

A 24-year-old woman and two men aged 23 and 33, all from Cooktown, were each charged with possession of a dangerous drug and possession of a drug utensil.

The four are scheduled to appear in the Cooktown Magistrates Court on June 8.  

Boy charged over Southside property offences:  A 13-year-old Holloways Beach youth was charged yesterday as a result of investigations into property related offences allegedly committed at Edmonton, Bentley Park and Innisfail on May 7 and 8.

It will be alleged that the boy was with a group of other youths who gained entry to an Edmonton early learning centre and stole keys before stealing two mini buses belonging to the centre.

One of the vehicles was located soon afterward parked on an Edmonton street and the other was later located in Innisfail.

It will be further alleged that the boy was involved in further burglary and vehicle theft incidents at Bentley Park and Innisfail the following day.

Cairns Property Crime Squad officers took the boy into custody at his Holloways Beach residence yesterday afternoon and he was charged two counts of burglary and five counts of unlawful use of motor vehicles.

Seven other youths have already been charged in relation to the incidents.
