What’s been happening?

With the recent announcement of the G20 being in Brisbane in 2014, you would understand that the interest level in this event is very high given that the Brisbane Convention Centre is just down the road and in our local area.  We haven’t heard any specific information yet regarding planning or scope of operations but when we do, we will post to the blog to keep you in the loop. We are happy to take questions and will answer them if we can but it is very early in the planning for us.

We are having a particularly good period with our core crime at a very low level.  We will send out a blog soon with the latest crime mapping to show you what has been going on. One of our initiatives has been the Mobile Policing Facility operations where we use the MPF as a mobile police station and drop it and staff into selected areas.

Interestingly one of our biggest demands over recent weekends has been for noise complaints.  The vast majority of the calls related to late night parties going well into the early hours of the morning.  It often is the case that the offending party (literally) show no consideration for their neighbours.  Let’s face it, the closer we are to the CBD, the closer we are packed in around each other.  Whilst we probably have to be more tolerant of noise in general, people don’t have to cop being still awake at 2am.  If that is happening to you call us.

Our Detectives at Dutton Park CIB have been particularly busy with a number of major operations and we will post a blog when they finalise those jobs with some of the results, you will be impressed!.

As part of a national initiative our station is one of a dozen across the state that were set up with Livescan to fingerprint members of the private security industry.  Livescan is basically a machine that takes fingerprints without the need to use ink as we had in the past.  It has been an interesting process with people travelling not only locally but also from New South Wales and Victoria who often work inQueensland.  Our station has been doing this work since May 2011 and year to date for 2012 we have processed over 2000.  This work is actually done by our Station Client Service Officers who are non-sworn members.

The Dutton Park crew have been fairly busy recently with some great patrol work in the area.  They have also been receiving progressive training with the new laws and policies relating to Domestic Violence.  Also we have had four officers trained and qualified in the use of LIDAR which are our hand held speed detection instruments, so watch your speed and here’s a clue, near schools!

For mainly Kangaroo Point folks, we received advice that the Home Festival planned for this coming Saturday 21st July at Raymond Park near the Pineapple Hotel has been postponed to Saturday 25th August due to the wet condition of the park.  Good luck Annie with the new date!

Finally and not the least, congratulations to Cairns and Maryborough on the launch of their own myPolice blog pages which you can check out from the menu on the right of our page.  There are a number of other great blogs under construction which look very exciting which will release soon.
