The nominations are in for the annual Adopt-a-Cop of the year award. Congratulations to the following hard-working Far Northern Region Adopt-a-Cops who have been nominated;
- Senior Constable Lauren Barron – Our Lady Help of Christians
- Sergeant Cary Coolican – St Josephs Primary School
- Constable Damien West – St Therese’s Primary School
- Sergeant Larissa Flood – St Monica’s Catholic College
Nominations were submitted by local schools accompanied by letters of support from parents and staff. The nominations are judged locally at a district and regional level to determine the Far Northern Region Adopt-a-Cop of the year before being sent to the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Branch in Brisbane for judging of the Adopt-a-Cop of the year for Queensland.
The four nominees are extremely hard working Adopt-a-Cops that have gone above and beyond for their local schools. Adopt-a-Cops undertake a wide range of duties at their adopted school including; conducting class presentations, attending school fetes and sports days, meeting with troubled students and dropping in to say hello to the students, just to name a few.
Currently there are 73 Adopt-a-Cops attached to schools in the Far Northern Region. Adopt-a-Cops perform much of their adopted duties in their own time and play a very important role in building the relationship between police and their school community.
