Suspicious device, Newtown

Two men have been charged following investigations into the discovery of a suspicious device at a school carpark in Newtown on May 10.

At 2am, emergency services were called to a Herries Street facility following the discovery of an item in a garden bed.

The device was deemed to be safe and did not pose a risk to public safety.

Two 18-year-old Newtown men are scheduled to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on May 30 charged with one count each of bomb hoax and wilful damage.

Police would like to thank the members of the public who came forward with information and CCTV footage that assisted police with the investigation.
