Serious assault police and drugs charges – Nerang

A man has been charged following a disturbance at Nerang on Saturday morning.

Around 3am it will be alleged police intercepted a vehicle in Hinkler Drive when the driver attempted to evade officers.

It will be alleged the 25-year-old Ormeau man refused to leave the vehicle and has resisted arrest.

A violent struggle ensued during which it will be further alleged the man bit a male officer on the hand. A second officer was also injured during the altercation and both were treated at the scene.

It will be alleged a search of the man’s vehicle located a large quantity of drugs and cash.

A 25-year-old Ormeau man has been charged with serious assault police, assault or obstruct police, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 4, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing relevant substances, producing dangerous drugs, possess utensils or pipes that had been used, possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, possessing anything used in the commission of crime defined in Part 2, possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under Drugs Misuse Act.

The man has been remanded in police custody and is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates tomorrow, March 28.
