The Flinders Highway remains closed in both directions between Richmond and Julia Creek following yesterday’s truck rollover and sulfuric acid spill.
A detour suitable for all traffic – including heavy vehicles – has been set up whilst a decontamination unit is on the scene continuing to empty out sulfuric acid from the truck’s tanks.
The recovery of the tanks and truck is on schedule to be completed by 6pm.
Around 2.25pm yesterday, a truck transporting three tanks of sulfuric acid rolled whilst travelling west on the Flinders Highway about 50 kilometres west of Richmond.
One of the tanks containing around 17,000 litres of sulfuric acid spilled onto the highway.
A further update is expected by 4pm.
