Search and rescue, Fraser Island

Police will resume a search at first light this morning for a kayaker who was reported missing yesterday afternoon on Fraser Island.

About 3.40pm yesterday police were advised two male kayakers had been paddling in the ocean, approximately 500 metres north of Happy Valley, when a large wave had dislodged both of them from their kayaks.

One of the kayakers made it back to the shore along with both the kayaks however the second kayaker has not been seen since.

An extensive search utilising local police, two rescue helicopters and Tin Can Bay Coast Guard was undertaken before bad weather forced the search to be called off.

Local Fraser Island police continued to search the shoreline with the search and rescue effort set to resume again at first light this morning.
