Armed robbery, North Cairns

Police are investigating the armed robbery of a grocery store in North Cairns overnight.

Initial investigations suggest shortly before 10pm a man entered the business on Sheridan Street armed with two knives, demanding cash and cigarettes.

A 50-year-old female staff member complied with the man’s demands before he fled the scene on foot, travelling north on Sheridan Street.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his 40s, approximately 183cm tall with a slim build.

Investigations are continuing.
