Grievous bodily harm charge, Toowoomba

Police have charged a man following investigations into a serious assault in Toowoomba this afternoon.

It will be alleged that around 3pm a 22-year-old man and a woman were involved in a physical altercation on Bridge Street, Wilsonton when a 65-year-old man stopped his vehicle and attempted to assist the woman.

It is then alleged the 22-year-old man has pushed the older man causing him to fall to the ground and strike his head on the roadway.

The 65-year-old, Tweed Heads man was treated at the scene and was transported to the Toowoomba Base Hospital with a serious head injury.

The 22-year-old man was arrested and later charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, possessing dangerous drugs and possession of a drug utensil.

He is due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court tomorrow.
