Update: Fatal bus crash, Cannon Valley

A 19-year-old Proserpine man has died and ten others have been injured following a bus crash at Cannon Valley this afternoon.

Initial information indicates the bus with 13 people on board was travelling west on Shute Harbor Road when it left the roadway and overturned near Brandy Creek Road around 1pm.

A 19-year-old man who was transported to Proserpine Hospital was pronounced deceased late this afternoon.

A 17-year-old man remains in a critical condition in Proserpine Hospital and is expected to be transported to Townsville Hospital along with a 25-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man who have each suffered serious arm injuries.

The 70-year-old male driver, three female passengers aged 79, 46 and 23 and three male passengers aged 42, 36 and a six-month old infant were also transported to Mackay and Proserpine hospitals for treatment.

Shute Harbour Road is expected to reopen shortly.

The Forensic Crash Unit is continuing its investigations into the incident.
