Located: Missing man, Briggs Reef (Port Douglas)

Cairns police have located the body of a man who was reported missing off the coast of Port Douglas this afternoon.

Police were notified just after 2pm that a man had failed to return to a vessel after snorkelling off Briggs Reef, just east of Fitzroy Island. He was last seen aboard the vessel at around 12.30pm.

A Search and Rescue was activated by Cairns police a short while later, tasking the Rescue 510 helicopter.

At around 4.25pm, the helicopter located a deceased man in the water. The man has been identified as a Pakistani national.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.  There is no further information available at this stage.
