Fatal traffic incident, Cairns

A senior officer from the Northern Region was involved in a traffic incident this morning in the carpark of a government building on Sheridan Street in Cairns.

At around 4.20am, police were called to Sheridan Street with reports that a vehicle, driven by the senior officer, collided with a man in the driveway.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Ethical Standards Command will investigate and the Crime and Corruption Commission has been notified as per normal procedure.
