Police are investigating a serious traffic incident that occurred in Ravenshoe this morning.
Around 11.30am, a utility travelling along the Kennedy Highway has left the road, crashed into a tree, and subsequently caught alight.
Passing motorists stopped to render assistance and extracted a man from the utility.
The male occupant and sole occupant of the vehicle, believed to be aged in his 60s, suffered serious burns and life-threatening injuries. He was taken to the Cairns Hospital.
The Kennedy Highway was closed in both directions for approximately two hours, but one lane has since reopened.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
