Preliminary investigations indicate two vehicles travelling towards Garbutt (north-east) were forced to take evasive action after a white Hyundai sedan drove between them around 1.50pm on Wednesday September 19.
A van in the right lane subsequently lost control and collided with another sedan in the left lane between the Banfield Drive and Nathan Street intersections.
The van has then crossed a median strip and collided with another van travelling in the opposite direction.
It is believed the drivers of the north-east bound vehicles sustained minor injuries, however, the female driver travelling south-west received life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.
Police are appealing for any witnesses of the crash, or anyone who may have information on the white Hyundai sedan, believed to be a late 90s model with a rear spoiler and external louvers on the rear window, to contact Crime Stoppers.
