UPDATE Robbery with violence charge, Surfers Paradise

An 18-year-old Varsity Lakes man has been charged with robbery following the alleged assault of a man and theft of his mobile phone at Surfers Paradise yesterday morning.

Around 2.30am, a 23-year-old Surfers Paradise man was walking along Remembrance Drive when he was approached by a man who allegedly assaulted and then robbed him of his mobile phone.

Police located and detained a man sitting outside a Gold Coast Highway, Mermaid Beach, address a short time later, following preliminary investigations.

The 18-year-old man is due to appear before the Southport Magistrates Court today.

The 23-year-old sustained only minor injuries.
