Armed robbery charge, Pimlico

A 19-year-old local man has been charged and another is assisting with police enquiries following the alleged armed robbery of a Pimlico service station this morning at knifepoint.

Around 12.35am, a man entered the Palmerstone Street business and allegedly threatened a staff member with a knife before fleeing with a sum of cash.

A police dog and his handler were deployed at the scene and commenced tracking the alleged offender.

A man was subsequently arrested nearby a short time later.

A 19-year-old male suffered minor injuries to his ankle as a result and received precautionary treatment at the scene.

A perusal of the service station CCTV footage identified a second person of interest and as a result another 19-year-old man, from Gulliver, was detained at the scene shortly after.

The Pimlico man is due to appear before the Townsville Magistrates Court today on one count of armed robbery.

The service station staff member was not physically injured.
