One year ago this week, Detective Senior Constable Damian Leeding lost his life in the line of duty.
On May 29, 2011, Detective Senior Constable Leeding was responding with his partner to reports of an armed robbery in progress at the Pacific Pines Tavern in Coomera when he suffered a gunshot wound.
He died in hospital on June 1 2011. He is survived by his wife Sonya and two children, Hudson and Grace.
At the request of his family, the Queensland Police Service has a number of low-key internal events planned to commemorate the life and career of DSC Leeding, including the DSC Damian Leeding Charity Golf Day at Palm Meadows Golf Resort on May 29.
Some 126 people are participating in the invitation-only event, and all monies raised will be donated to Police Legacy.
A short memorial service will be held for his colleagues at Damian Leeding Memorial Park, in Oxenford on Friday June 1.
Members of the public who wish to pay tribute to DSC Leeding are asked to donate to Police Legacy and/or wear a Blue Ribbon on Friday June 1. Ribbons are available from police stations.
